Granville Island

What a great way to spend a summer morning - running with the Bushtits!

A decent-sized flock met on Granville Island at 7.30 a.m. and ran and walked over Burrard, and then back along the seawall, detours and all, to Science World, returning along the south False Creek seawall to where we started for a 9k distance. (OK, a small group of masochists carried on as far as the Maritime Museum.)

Then the important part: tracking down coffee...

Possible excursion overseas next Sunday - talk to Rainy on Wednesday for details. Or the usual group run at 8 a.m. from Eileen Dailly.

Don't forget to stay well-hydrated now it looks like summer might be here to stay. (Let's hope those aren't famous last words...)

I checked out the Scotiabank 1/2 website photo gallery and found a couple of Bushtits - Barb M. (green shirt) crossing the finish line, and Joe running with a bunch of strange women!

Details about Sunday (July 17)

For everyone who wants to do the Granville Island run on Sunday:

We're meeting at 7.30 a.m. outside the Arts Club Theatre, which is at 1585 Johnston Street(NEXT TO THE PUBLIC MARKET). (The time was set by agreement of people who ran last Sunday, so don't heckle me - YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!!!!!!!!!)

Some of us will be doing 12-15k, but it's not mandatory (it never is!).

Bring money/credit card so you can go for breakfast after - we haven't decided where yet - a good thing to talk about when we're running.

Here's a map of the area: (entrance is off West 4th, under the Granville Bridge).

The Charles Street Hill

It always seems to be John who leads us into these things - extra distance on our training runs, that kind of thing. Today it was the Charles Street hill. And it was kinda warm! Still a big crew turned out this morning, and everyone made it up that hill!

To get there, we took Pandora to Fellowes, then north, then west to the PNE, but took the hill down to the right before looping around to the parking lot near the track, then through the grounds (with the ceremonial stop at the water fountain), up to Renfrew, south on Renfrew to Charles, and then east on Charles, including the overpass. Total distance this morning was 8.9k, but Tom is right: it seemed like 10k, and surely that hill counts as extra distance.

Next week an adventure: meet at Granville Island in front of the Arts Club at 7:30 (it's heating up this week) - shooting for distances between the usual 8-10 and 15 for those who want to keep their distance up. And breakfast on the island afterwards - I know, it's not Tim's but I'm sure we can find something good (think of all those bakeries).
