Almost there

Only two more long runs and the Scotiabankers are ready (we hope)...

Yesterday, 10 of us ran to Science World. The weather co-operated, giving us a cool, cloudy start. At Science World, we ran the wrong way through a 1 and 5-k finish line, and then cheered a bunch of little guys as they ran for the finish of their 1-k. Then we decided to run home the way we ran last week, which (as is getting to be a habit) tacked on a couple of k to our intended distance. Kathy's GPS battery died, so we don't really know how far we went - no matter, because it was fun. Except for the part where we got kicked off (in the nicest way) Commissioner Street by a security guard, who opened the gate so we could cross the tracks and go back onto Powell/Dundas. Next time we'll tell them we're running to the Cannery for brunch or something.

Another group went to Seymour again, but I haven't heard how that went.

Next week is 18k (or 20, if we follow our recent pattern), and then a 20k. And then a short little run before Scotiabank on the 26th.

Scotiabank training

About a month to go until the Scotiabank. Today our long run was supposed to be 15 k. We set off in the rain: John, Shirley, Ruben, Barb, Donna, Linda and me. Plus Tony and a woman whose name I don't know - they turned back as planned at about 5k. Ernie and Kelly, both battling injuries, opted for a walk.

The half-marathoners headed along Pandora, down into the PNE grounds and then west along Dundas/Powell/Alexander. At the halfway point, the rain having let up, John convinced us to run to the Gastown clock, since there were only a few blocks left. Between that and a slightly different return (over the tracks by way of some stairs at - I think - Clark, and then east along Commissioner to New Brighton and then home along the Trans-Canada Trail) we ended up doing 17.2 k. We walked for a couple of hundred metres after we hit the 15k mark, but it was raining again, and harder, so Ruben, John, Shirley and I ran in. Barb and Donna were both dealing with some annoying aches, and Linda kept them company walk-running in.

A really great run! (Next week: Science World, a little over 16 k.)

Burnaby Runs

This team blog was inspired by John Delima, who started BurnabyRunner a couple of months ago. The idea is for people from the running group we belong to (the Burnaby Bushtits) to use this for any running-related posts they want to make. So it can be a running journal, an advice forum, and a place to post routes and other information.

I started this today because it was my first long training run in preparation for this year's Scoriabank Half-Marathon, scheduled for June 26. Twelve km. today - we ran from Eileen Dailly to Ron Andrews Pool in North Van and back - exactly 12k. We had a couple of Bridge Virgins when we set off, but they both conquered Second Narrows and are virgins no more! (Woohoo!!!)
